Design considerations for gear systems

Gears are used when speed reduction is necessary i.e it helps in reducing speed. It is found in various automobiles, paint plants, cranes, escavators e.t.c. For a gear designer to design a good gear systems,he must have the following data at his fingertips:
.The power to be transmitted
.The speed of the driving gear
.The speed of the driven gear
.The centre distance
.The gear tooth should have wear characteristics
.The lubrication of the gears must be satisfactory.
.The gear teeth should have sufficient strength so that they will not fail under static loading or dynamic loading during normal running conditions.

How to become a good writer

Everyone has problems with writing the problems differ only by degree. Unlike some engineering problems that you can solve by applying an algorithm that results in the correct answer everytime there is no such algorithm that guarantees good writing.Instead, you learn to write by trial and error and by reading examples of good writing learning to write properly requires a lifelong commitment.Slowly, overtime and with practice, this skills sinks in.
Good writing requires editing, rarely does a well-written document emerges extemporaneously.

How to plan a research project

There are a number of reasons why researchers experience difficulty with research. The most important of these are firstly- difficulties in selecting suitable topic. Secondly, the problem of selecting an appropriate analytical framework and thirdly inability to manage avaliable resources in particular their time.
The third reason is common at all of research and is often symptomatic of the previous two. Where researchers have problems in planning content, these often reflect themselves in wasting time and lack of progress. Planning is a useful tool in research work which enables a researcher to realize when he has run into serious difficulties. It also functions as motivational device that enables him achieve set goals. The major purposes of planning are as follows:
.To clarify the aims and objectives of the researcher
.To define the activities required to attain these aims and the order in which they take place
.To identify various critical points in the research at which progress can be reviewed and the research plan reassessed.
.To serve as a guide for increasing the likelihood of successful completion in time.
